Step 9 – Hire An Inspector

Some homeowners try to hide the problems their house might have such as a cracked foundation, leaky roof or old wiring.

  • Hire your own inspector or engineer to conduct an inspection of the house even if the City in which you are buying requires a code inspection. Inspectors and structural engineers are professionals who are certified to do this.
  • There is time to conduct the inspection while you are waiting to have you loan approved. If the inspection uncovers problems and their loan is approved, you do not have to buy this house.
  • ALWAYS stipulate in your purchase agreement that the sale of the house is contingent upon a satisfactory inspection.
